The Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA) has partnered with the French Embassy to conduct a three-day training aimed at strengthening journalists’ skills in online investigation and fact-checking amid rising misinformation.
The training, which has attracted over 30 UPPA members, focuses on equipping parliamentary reporters with practical tools to verify digital content and combat the spread of false information.
UPPA President Samuel Ibanda Mugabi said the initiative is part of the association’s broader effort to promote credible and accountable journalism within the parliamentary beat.
“By enhancing their skills in these areas, UPPA members will be better equipped to provide accurate and reliable reporting to the public,” Mugabi said.
The workshop addresses growing challenges journalists face in the digital era, where unverified information and online propaganda threaten the integrity of public discourse.
Officials from the French Embassy said the training reaffirms their commitment to supporting media capacity-building in Uganda, particularly in strengthening professionalism and accuracy in political reporting.
The program is expected to culminate in a practical session where participants will apply verification techniques to real-world case studies involving online misinformation.
